Bilbo

Bilbo

This is Bilbo. Bilbo is a black Mongolian Gerbil. He was named along with his brother and littermate for Bilbo Baggins the hobbit from the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings books and movies, but we looked up the name online and discovered that it’s a Basque name. It took some searching to find a meaning for the name, but eventually we learned that it's most likely a combination of the names "Bill" which can mean either "strong mind" or "protection" and "Bo" which means "wave-like" – so Bilbo probably means “wave-like protection with a strong mind” or something like that. Bilbo is a very timid little gerbil who loves digging and re-arranging burrows. He’s much more shy and quiet than his brother, Baggins, and much daintier when he eats too. Bilbo spends most of his time getting frustrated with his brother for messing up his nice arrangements of straw and other bedding materials, digging tunnels, or taking naps.

Baggins

Baggins

This is Baggins. Baggins is a golden agouti Mongolian Gerbil. He was named along with his brother and littermate for Bilbo Baggins the hobbit from the Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings books and movies. We were unable to find any origin or meaning for the name; though we did look. Baggins is a friendly little gerbil who loves his food. He’s much more outgoing than his brother, Bilbo, and not as bothered about manners when it comes to food. Baggins loves being social, and spends most of his time poking his head out of tunnels to see what’s going on, rushing to his food dish for a snack, or annoying his brother by jumping on him or his carefully arranged piles of nesting materials.
